Inter Milan's sporting director
Piero Ausilio was at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night to pursue his
interest in Chelsea's Fernando Torres.
Ausilio
warned last week that Torres's wages might be too expensive for Inter
but the Spain striker remains high on the list of targets for the
Italian giants as they rebuild under new Indonesian owner Erick Thohir.
Inter boss Walter Mazzarri is anxious to boost his attacking options
and has also prioritised a defensive midfielder, with John Mikel Obi an
option.
In action: Fernando Torres replaced Samuel Eto'o as a second-half substitute in Chelsea's win over Galatasaray
Torres, who started on the bench
against Galatasaray, has two years left on his contract and will be
aware that Jose Mourinho is searching for new strikers in the summer.
Mikel
has three more years left on his deal but has been displaced this
season by Ramires and the return of Nemanja Matic from Benfica.
Holland
midfielder Marco van Ginkel, who made four appearances earlier in the
season after joining from Vitesse Arnhem for £8million, is close to
being fit again after a serious knee injury.
Meanwhile,
Aston Villa’s Karim El Ahmadi has claimed he was lucky not to be
seriously injured by Ramires during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat of Chelsea.
‘On the field I did not realise it was so serious,’ El Ahmadi told Dutch newspaper Tubantia.
Anchorman finds it funny: John Mikel Obi is also an option for Inter Milan this summer
‘Now, I’ve seen the pictures and realise it could have been fatal. My leg could have folded over.’
Jose Mourinho could still be charged by the FA for his behaviour at
Villa Park. The Portuguese will face no further action regarding
post-match media remarks about referee Chris Foy's performance but the
FA's disciplinary chiefs were still examining video evidence relating to
his touchline antics.
He
was sent to the stands for the second time this season after walking
onto the pitch when Foy sent off Ramires, the second Chelsea player
dismissed during the 1-0 defeat. Any charge is likely to result in
nothing more than a fine for Mourinho.
