What a waste! Hoddle says Bale money spent on wrong players as Spurs crash out of Europa League

Glenn Hoddle accused Tottenham of wasting the £86million earned from the sale of Gareth Bale as the club were knocked out of the Europa League on Thursday night.
The Spurs legend said Bale has been replaced by the wrong type of players, who are ‘good but not great’.
Spurs spent heavily last summer, bringing in seven players including £30m Erik Lamela and £26m Roberto Soldado, but were knocked out by Benfica 5-3 on aggregate after drawing 2-2 in the Estadio da Luz.

'Whenever I watch the team, I don’t see the pass that is going to hurt the opposition.’
Former Spurs striker Gary Lineker also claimed Soldado was ‘s**t’ in a ‘joke’ post on Twitter on Thursday night, but Tim Sherwood defended his team.
He said: ‘They showed real character and real guts and they need to do that until the end of the season because we’ve got some tough games ahead.
‘As much as we’re disappointed, to have come here 3-1 down and still be disappointed shows how well the boys did. No-one’s going to want to be playing Tottenham after this. When they see what we can do when we play well, it’ll be a fixture people will want to stay away from.
‘I never followed Gary’s career too closely but criticism doesn’t help. Soldado needs as much help as he can get. Gary was a top player, so give him a bit of slack.’
Hoddle was speaking at a publicity event for the London Legends tournament in May at Brisbane Road.

He told BBC London: 'There hasn't been enough continuity and consistency there on and off the pitch. The signings that were made at the start of the season for nearly 100 million haven't really produced, I've got to say that.
'Maybe they might produce next year once they've settled in and had another year in the Premier League but I think things need to settle. If you're going to do anything you need a steady boat rather than a boat that keeps being rocked.
'Tottenham has been my club since I was eight years of age so anything I can do to help. I nearly went there this time round 'til the end of the season.
'I said I was prepared to do that. I wouldn't have been prepared to do it for any other club apart from Tottenham because it's in my DNA.
'Although I've had great times at other clubs, there's just something in there about Tottenham and myself that goes back since I was eight years of age.
'So if that was the case and it nearly became the case, I would have been happy to but they made their decision and they've moved on.
'The amount of money that's been spent there, I'd imagine that the fans and the club itself, you know, directors, would be looking and wanting a bit more consistency but they've got to show consistency off the pitch to get it on it.'
